‘Successful integration of Design and Functionality in the new Learning and Innovation Centre (LIC) of ULB and VUB with acoustic integration panels in walls’

The new Learning and Innovation Centre (LIC) of ULB and VUB (9910m²), designed by evr architects & A229, provides an innovative and flexible learning environment for students, teachers and external partners. The building is equipped with various facilities such as individual study rooms, meeting rooms, collaboration classrooms and special areas such as the Learning Theatre and an immersive room. This building was officially opened on May 14, 2025.

Since a pleasant conversational environment and good acoustics are essential for a learning environment, the architects engaged acou study firm ATS at an early design stage.  For reverberation correction in large rooms, various decorative acoustic absorbing wall panels by acoustics specialist Triplaco were used: namely Triplacoustics products Type ML and Type C. Both panels with micro-perforations and perforated acoustic panels with the same high-quality top layer HPL 1612SE2 (Teak imitation) by Abet Laminati on a Multiplex core or on Black MDF core. These panels ensure an optimum conversation climate in the rooms and durable impact and scratch-resistant walls.
